a thriving town with plenty of places to
eat and drink. The
Chateau Du Jonzac is open from May
to September, and the Le Moulin du Cluzelet (with real
flour) is open on wednesdays.

Explore the area
Pons is dominated by
its 'donjon', a 12th Century keep which
now houses the tourist office. The old town
has tiny medieval streets (les ruelles)
and imposing ramparts looking down onto
the River Seugne 30 metres below, all of
which can be explored on foot.

St Emillion
is a beautiful walled town only forty
minutes drive from the gites. Its history goes back to prehistoric times
and is a World Heritage site, with fascinating
Romanesque churches and ruins stretching
all along steep and narrow streets.
La Rochelle The
port of La Rochelle has been standing since
the XIIIth century.

The arch covered streets
are the real charm of the city. They testify
to the town's trading history, shopkeepers
used to display their merchandise under
the porches giving shelter to sun and rain.
La Rochelle is an hour's drive.

Bordeaux -
Famous for its wines, Bordeaux is also worth
a visit for its gothic cathedrals and 18th
century mansions. Bordeaus is a forty-five
minute drive.
Cognac -
a mere 35
minutes drive to experience "the angels
share"!
